ABOUT

Hailing from Brixton, South London, music producer and composer Robert Kiruta-Kigozi (also known by his alias 'R-Kay') caught the musical bug from an early age. He started playing cello at the age of 10, as part of his classical training at CYM (The Centre For Young Musicians, part of Guildhall School of Music). Robert then went on to pick up piano, mostly by learning to play his favourite songs by ear.

Coupled with his exposure to an array genres through his families music collection, throughout childhood, Robert initially expressed a significant interest in music production upon attending a summer workshop aged 14. He began to see how he could merge his understanding of Classical Music, innate love for Hip-hop and Jazz. He has since amassed a growing roster of collaborations with some of the UK's most promising talent from the Hip-Hop/R&B/Soul scene, including the likes of Lex Amor, Kadeem Tyrell, Emil and Jaz Karis to name a few. In 2023, R-Kay was also credited as a producer on Noname's highly anticipated album, 'Sundial', co-producing 'beauty supply' alongside fellow UK producer and close collaborator, Emil. This partnership also led to his involvement in UK Grime legend Ghetts' 4th studio album, 'On Purpose, With Purpose', most notably producing 'Double Standards' featuring the highly acclaimed Sampha.

Upon scoring for a number of smaller online productions, Robert landed his first major composition credits, scoring for Channel 4 commissioned documentary "Damilola: The Boy Next Door" in 2020, narrated by Presenter & DJ, Yinka Bokinni. He has also set his sights on breaking further into the world of TV/Film scoring, with the goal of working on more impactful projects and feature films with world class directors & producers.
